Collection: Mayones Guitars

Mayones has been building guitars in Gdansk, Poland since 1982, which makes it older than most of the boutique brands that get called legendary.

Zenon Dziewulski started it, the Dziewulski family still runs it, and about forty people build everything by hand in the same workshop. Necks are left to cure for a month after gluing and another two before shaping, and every single instrument gets Plek-scanned before it leaves. That is not marketing language, that is just how long it takes.

Guitar Freaks is an authorised Mayones dealer with a real boutique in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, run by the team behind Bass Freaks, shipping worldwide. Not the Konami arcade game. Actual guitars.

The Mayones range

Family Construction What it does best
Aquila Bolt-on S-type, 25.4 inch, 24 stainless frets, 12 inch radius The most immediately playable of the line, and the one we carry deepest. Very much in production, whatever the internet says.
Regius Neck-through, 24 frets, multi-ply striped neck The flagship. Sustain for days and the most recognisable neck laminate in the business. Regius, Regius Core, Regius Core Classic.
Duvell Bolt-on superstrat The aggressive one. Available fanned (VF) at 25.4 to 27 inches for people who tune down and want the low string to stay a note.
Hydra Headless, carved section behind the bridge Balance and weight. Elite, Elite Pro and Elite VF depending on how far down the rabbit hole you are going.
Setius GTM series The more traditional double-cut of the range.
Legend Single-cut, bolt-on Mayones doing a single-cut without pretending to be anyone else.
Jassper Offset The newest body. The Jassper Nidra is Jakub Zytecki's signature.

Mayones questions we actually get asked

Where are Mayones guitars made?

Gdansk, Poland. All of them, every model, since 1982. No offshore line, no licensed budget series, no second factory. It is one workshop with roughly forty people in it.

Regius, Duvell or Aquila?

The Regius is neck-through and the most resonant of the three, with the multi-ply striped neck people recognise instantly. The Duvell is bolt-on and more aggressive, and it is the one that comes fanned for low tunings. The Aquila is the S-type: bolt-on, 25.4 inch scale, 24 stainless frets, and the easiest of the three to just pick up and play. Price ladder aside, they are three different instruments, not three tiers of the same one.

What is a Hydra?

Mayones' headless design, with a carved section behind the bridge that solves the two things headless players complain about: the guitar feeling like a plank, and the guitar feeling nose-heavy. Elite, Elite Pro and Elite VF sit above each other on spec, with VF meaning multiscale.

What does B26.5 or B27 mean on a Mayones?

Baritone scale length in inches. A B26.5 is a 26.5 inch scale, a B27 is 27 inches. Longer scale means more tension at the same tuning, which is what keeps a low B or a drop A from turning to rubber. If you play in standard, you do not need it.

What does VF mean?

Multiscale, also called fanned frets. The bass side gets a longer scale than the treble side, so the low strings tighten up without the high strings going stiff. Once your hand adjusts it stops feeling exotic within about an hour.

What is 4Ever?

A Mayones fitted with an Evertune bridge, which holds the string at a set tension so tuning stays put through bends, temperature swings and whatever your right hand does to it. Divisive, and if you record a lot it will pay for itself in the first session.

Can I order a custom Mayones?

Yes. Mayones runs a custom shop and an online configurator, and we place the order and handle the European end of it. Be realistic about time: dealers report lead times of typically around a year. Mayones is not going to rush a neck that needs three months of curing, and you would not want them to.

Does Mayones make basses?

They do, and they are excellent. The Jabba and the Cali are basses, not guitars, which is a distinction the internet gets wrong constantly. If that is what you are after, our sister shop Bass Freaks is where that conversation happens.

Who plays Mayones?

Misha Mansoor, John Browne, Daniel Gildenlow, Hadrien Feraud, Adam Christianson, who has his own Aquila Cardinal signature, and Jakub Zytecki. It skews progressive, which tells you what the instruments are built to do.
